Newsletter 5: "Sickies" the new 'epidemic’

"Sickies" the new 'epidemic’. This was the front page title in a recent issue of Business Times newspaper. Global studies indicate that short term absenteeism in the workplace is spiralling out of control. In South Africa alone it costs our economy in excess of R2-billion a year. Although causes of short term sick leave and absenteeism varies, respiratory (40%) and digestive (14%) illness seem to be the most prominent culprits. Click here to read the newsletter.

Newsletter 4: 'Oil of Remembrance'

Have you ever walked into a room only to find yourself standing there wondering what you went there for? Have you ever been half way through a conversation and then forgot what you were talking about? How about writing an exam, knowing that you know the answer but just can’t remember? Sometimes I just put it down to the fact that I have too much to remember and most of the time, my dear friend ‘Diary’ who is always at my side, comes to the rescue. However, it can’t help me half way through a conversation or when I walk into a room and can’t remember what I went there for! As for writing exams, well the diary wouldn’t be allowed, would it? Newsletter 3: The Mediterranean Garden

Pause with me for a moment to picture a courtyard paved with random stone, a tiled roof and a row of Lemon trees planted in terracotta tubs. What could be more Mediterranean? The Mediterranean coast of France is regularly struck by frost. It is therefore essential to be able to move small lemon trees to a sheltered position for the winter. Pots can be used for plants requiring a great deal of water and a dish can be placed beneath the pot to prevent the water draining away. Lemon trees can be planted in your garden with rows of Lavender between them to keep away aphids and whitefly, or in a pot on the patio or in the courtyard. Click here to read the full newsletter.
