The Essentials Of Tea Tree Oil |
|
|
Colds and
Flu are unfortunately always hovering around, so for this month, I
thought we could have a look at the well known Tea Tree and the
Essential Oil it provides. This 'Medicine Chest in a Bottle' is one
of the most valuable Essential Oils for the first aid kit. It not
only boosts the Immune System but it is also tremendously valuable
for the Respiratory System.
We'll be looking at some Essential Harmony products containing Tea
Tree Essential Oil, the actual plant (Melaleuca alternifolia), as
well as ways to use the Essential Oil to assist with Respiratory
problems.

Tea Tree was originally used by the Aborigines in
Australia to make a herbal tea from the leaves. It is one of the few
Essential Oils which work on all three infectious organisms:
bacteria, fungi and viruses.
Properties:
Antibacterial; antifungal; antiviral; decongestant; insecticide.
Uses:
Tea Tree is particularly helpful in preventing the spread of
air-borne infections and has powerful immune stimulating properties.
It is beneficial to use at the first symptoms of colds and flu and
will help prevent everyone else getting the infection.
Ways to use Tea Tree Essential Oil
Vaporizer: Sprinkle a few drops onto crystals in the
vaporizer in the morning.
Steam Inhalation: An excellent way to treat bronchitis, nasal
congestion, colds, hay fever and flu. Place a bowl of about 3 cups
boiling water in a safe position. Add 2-3 drops Tea-Trea Essential
Oil to the water. Inhale the steam deeply through the nose. Placing
a towel over your head will delay the evaporation of the essential
oil. Repeat three times a day for acute conditions such as chest
infections, colds, coughs and sinusitis. ***Steam inhalation is not
recommended for people with asthma or sensitive skin.
Bath: (See new products above) Tea Tree in the bath helps to
boost the immune system and is most valuable for respiratory
problems such as colds and flu especially when the first symptoms
are noticed. Add up to 10 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil to a little
carrier oil such as Grapeseed, Almond or Olive Oil. Blend well and
add to the bath after the water has run.
Massage: Adults - Add 3 drops Lavender and 2 drop Tea Tree to
5ml carrier oil such as Grapeseed and gently massage on the chest to
help soothe.
Please note that care must always be taken
when using essential oils particularly for children and the elderly.
The information supplied is purely suggestions and is not intended
to diagnose or treat any particular illness. Please consult a
qualified Aromatherapist for individual assistance.
Cultivation:
Grown from seed. However it is not one of the easiest plants to grow
from seed, so buying the actual plant is recommended. Plant in full
sun in a big hole with lots of compost and water weekly. Please note
that it does not like frost.

Body
Facts: The Respiratory System
|
|
|
Health Poor posture,
lack of exercise, lack of fresh air, smoking or a smoky atmospheres
all contribute to inadequate intake of oxygen and respiratory
problems. When the first symptoms of flu appear, try taking a hot
bath with a handful of Epsom Salts.
Diet When you find
yourself having a cold, flu or bronchitis it is necessary to reduce
mucus forming foods such as dairy products. Cakes and pastries also
fall under this category.
Vitamin C is beneficial as well as zinc lozenges. Raw garlic is
invaluable for resistance to respiratory infections. Odourless
garlic gel capsules are available but they are not as powerful as
raw garlic. Fresh lemon juice and honey ‘tea’ is beneficial for
laryngitis. Fresh fruit and vegetables with plenty of liquids
including herbal teas will also assist in a quicker recovery.

Tip
of the Month |
|
|
Client Tip:
“I have
found a good use for the oily salt crystals that remain in the
vaporizer. Instead of throwing them away at the end of the month, I
pop them in the bath. Makes wonderful bath salt and nothing goes to
waste. Remember that sea salt, like sea water is very good when it
comes to healing minor wounds, scratches and grazes. Makes good
economic and health sense."
